Body Autotopography: The tangible scars shape our identity - Workshop with Howl Yuan

  • 5a Bloomsbury Square London WC1A 2TA United Kingdom (map)

If we regard our body as a piece of land, how do we articulate our landscape?

By paralleling our body with a topographical object, this workshop invites participants to adopt autotopography as the method and re-examine how our physicality informs our identity. Through practices that delve into our scars and wounds, akin to exploring every site of flood, drought, and landslide, our individual and collective identities take shape, as does our bodily landscape.

Howl Yuan is a performance maker and practitioner with ongoing interests in the relationship between the body and place. This workshop represents one of his attempts to employ the gaze of landscape to perceive our body. The event will include group practice, writing, and sharing, with Howl aiming to create a safe space for everyone. When participating, please feel free to share as much as you feel comfortable.

This event is part of our workshop series that explores themes of home, migration, displacement and diasporic knowledges.

Pushkin House is committed to making all of our events as accessible as possible for every audience member. Please get in touch with us if you have a particular request and we will gladly discuss with you the best way to accommodate it.
