COMMERCIAL MANAGER

Salary: £38,000 - £45,000 (depending on experience)

We see this as a full-time role but we are open to the other proposals, including 4 days per week, for the right candidate. 

Pushkin House is a dynamic arts organisation which continues to critically explore complicated Russian cultural, historical and political legacy and provides a platform to artists and creative practitioners from Russia, Central and Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia, focusing on themes of identity, citizenship, migration, displacement and belonging.

Pushkin House is currently undergoing a period of change and transformation.This role is for an experienced and dynamic commercial leader with a good understanding of operating successful commercial activity within a museum, charity or heritage environment. Reporting directly to the Director and the Board of Trustees, this role will lead a culture change within Pushkin House to insure the development, growth and delivery of the commercial business of the organisation including management of the venue hire operations, retail and bar sales.

You’ll be responsible for developing and implementing the organisation's commercial strategy and will play a pivotal role in driving Pushkin House’s financial growth, developing new partnerships, and enhancing our revenue streams. 

RESPONSOBILITIES:

COMMERCIAL STRATEGIES

  • promote Pushkin House building, services and talent to commercial clients;

  • develop and implement a comprehensive commercial strategy to increase revenue and profitability;

  • identify and pursue new business opportunities, and partnerships;

  • agree sales targets and put strategies in place to achieve them by maximising spend and profit per head;

  • review and develop on site and online retail offer to ensure the offer is on brand and delivering maximum benefit for the organisation, taking advantage of best practice sourcing, pricing, and merchandising techniques;

REVENUE GENERATION:

  • work on optimising ticket sales, venue hire, and merchandise sales;

  • develop and manage pricing strategies to maximise revenue while ensuring accessibility to the community;

  • explore innovative revenue-generating initiatives and oversee their implementation;

  • contributing to future planning for income generation potential, including franchising/outsourcing catering, and other services, eg evening bar programmes etc;

BUDGET MANAGEMENT AND REPORTING

  • create and manage budgets for the commercial programme;

  • monitor financial performance and make adjustments as necessary to achieve revenue goals.

  • report on all financial performance of revenue to senior management and the board;

  • regularly review rates and hire terms to ensure competitiveness;

OPERATIONS 

  • review and writing of licensing for trade;

  • managing existing client relationships;

  • managing all arrangements for premises hire: liaising with clients, sending quotes, preparing contracts, arranging catering/extra staff, briefing events managers;

  • following up after events;

  • liaising with Pushkin House tenants.

Required skills and experience: 

ESSENTIAL

  • proven track record in commercial management in a museum/heritage/visitor attraction/charity setting;

  • experience managing a venue-hire operation;

  • experience of developing and achieving commercial targets and developing commercial strategies;

  • experience in sales and/or marketing and managing client relationships; 

  • excellent negotiation and partnership-building skills;

  • in-depth understanding of market research methods and analysis;

  • interest in the working projects run by Pushkin House; 

DESIRABLE

  • existing certification : Fire Safety / First Aid / DBS;

  • familiarity with the local arts and cultural scene is a plus.
