DEVELOPMENT MANAGER 


Salary: £37,000 - £42,000 (depending on experience)

We see this as a full-time role but we are open to the other proposals, including 4 days per week, for the right candidate. 

Pushkin House is a dynamic arts organisation which continues to critically explore complicated Russian cultural, historical and political legacy and provides a platform to artists and creative practitioners from Russia, Central and Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia, focusing on themes of identity, citizenship, migration, displacement and belonging.

We are seeking a development manager to lead the charity in making persuasive and creative grant applications to trusts and foundations and work with the Executive Director on providing support to our major donors and Pushkin House Development Board.

You will have a track record and an understanding of trust and foundations landscape for the arts and culture sector in the UK, and internationally, and experience of supporting private philanthropy. The role will be target-driven and will require flexibility and creativity, and the ability to prioritise a range of responsibilities. A collaborative approach and ability to work independently is a must as well as being able to work at all levels with tact and diplomacy. It will suit an exceptionally methodical and organised individual with strong project and people management and excellent presentation and communication skills. 

The Development Manager will also be responsible for providing secretarial support to Pushkin House Development Board and work closely with the Executive Director and trustees on developing major donors programmes. You will also line manage the Development Officer, responsible for our Friends membership and cultivation events programme.

Responsibilities:

GRANT MANAGEMENT

  • develop and lead Pushkin House’s trusts and foundation strategy for grant funding in collaboration with the Executive Director and other staff;

  • manage the existing grant pipeline and identify and research new funding opportunities;

  • write, refine, submit and report on funding applications to funding bodies;

  • coordinate and prepare budgets to support strong grant applications;

  • manage reporting on successful grant applications in collaboration with colleagues;

STRATEGIC PLANNING

  • provide secretarial support to the Pushkin House Development Board;

  • together with Executive Director work on developing major donor strategy and engagement;

  • line manage Development Officer and make sure our Friends membership scheme is well run and we provide excellent standards of supporter care with exciting and varied stewardship programme;

  • make sure Pushkin House individual giving is GDPR and Charity Commission compliant and following best practice and code of conduct by the Fundraising Regulator; 

ADDITIONAL

  • actively engage with and demonstrate an interest in the work and mission of Pushkin House;

  • support the Pushkin House team across various programmes and events where necessary;

  • take an active role in improving Pushkin House on behalf of the staff who work there and the audience it serves. 


Required skills and experience: 

ESSENTIAL:

  • three years experience of fundraising for a charity or similar organisation;

  • strong track record of securing grant funding from trusts and foundations or similar grant-making bodies;

  • outstanding written communication skills;

  • experience preparing and presenting budgets;

  • experience in working with senior volunteers;

  • interest in the work and projects run by Pushkin House;

  • excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to form good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders;

  • good IT skills;

  • strong attention to detail;

  • ability to use initiative and work independently;

  • strong experience in Google Sheets or similar software such as Excel;

DESIRABLE:

  • experience of Google G-Suit for charities, Beacon CRM system, or similar;

  • events management (virtual and in person).
